Top 5 Best-Selling, Highest-Rated Wallets

How do you rate a good wallet? We take our wallets with us everywhere and access them several times a day because we need them to be able to store our money, cards, IDs, and sometimes small items like receipts, coins and keys. Consequently, a good wallet should be light and easily accessible. It should also be durable and capable of withstanding pressure, a few falls and some bad weather. Looks are also important – people tend to judge you on your appearance, which includes the appearance of your wallet.

Given below is a list of outstanding wallets that are made of high-quality material, look good, easy to buy and affordable too. The best part is that they have been used by thousands of people, making them a tried-and-tested, worthwhile investment:

1) Tommy Hilfiger Men’s Ranger Leather Passcase Wallet

2) RFID Blocking Leather Wallet by Leopardd

RFID Leather Wallet Review

The RFID Blocking Leather Wallet by Leopardd missed out on the top spot by a hair – but there’s very little that separates most of the products on this list. Winning top marks for build quality and design, The Leopardd looks great and is easy to use. It’s definitely one of the best men’s wallets you can buy at the price point.

The RFID Blocking Leather Wallet is made up of Napa leather. Napa leather is known to age well, and it looks really slick. Having nine slots when you open the wallet, you can store your cards and IDs there for quick retrieval. There’s enough room in the money pocket for multiple notes and receipts.

The USP of this wallet is the RFID protection – it will block point-blank reads from scanners, keeping your data safe. A drawback of this wallet is that it bulks up a bit when you fill it up with cards. The wallet is available in two standard colors: black and brown.

3) Travelambo Genuine Leather RFID Blocking Wallet

Travelamno Genuine Leather Wallet Review

The Travelambo Leather wallet makes it to our list for its excellent build quality and low price. Unlike most leather wallets, the Travelambo leather wallet is made of vegetable tanned leather. This type of leather is environmentally friendly. Don’t worry – there’s no compromise on quality made.

At 5.1 x 4.7 x 1.1 inches, the Travelambo wallet is roomy and big. It won’t fit most front pockets, but is a pretty good choice for a back pocket wallet thanks to its thinness. There are 2 compartments for your money, receipts and other knickknacks. This wallet has 9 slots for credit cards and a single fold-out ID window for your license.

The Travelambo wallet also offers RFID-blocking, so you’ll be protected from scanners. Because of its high quality build,  it is easy to use and will last for a good few years. It’s one of the best men wallet builds for the asking price.

Serman Brands Bifold Slim Wallet Review

The Serman Brands RFID-Blocking Bifold Slim Wallet is made from genuine leather and is meant to be a simple front pocket wallet. It doesn’t have a high carrying capacity – it will hold up to 4 cards and some money – but that’s a good thing if you’re a minimalist.

What types of wallets are there?

Our list just touched the tip of the iceberg. Wallets are available in a variety of shapes and sizes. We’ve noticed a trend of minimalism recently – people want something that’s convenient to use and doesn’t occupy a lot of space. Tri-fold leather wallets – the kind that carry a lot of money and cards – are consequently not as popular as they used to be. They’re still around, though, and there will always be a demand for big wallets.

Here are the most popular types of wallets on the market at the moment:

Minimalist Wallets

Minimalist Wallet Review

The best wallet isn’t necessarily big. Like we said before, there’s a minimalistic trend going around. If you’ve ever owned an ordinary leather wallet, you know that it can be a pain to carry when it’s full. When you sit on a fat wallet, you get some serious backaches. Minimalist wallets are stripped-down versions of wallets. They allow you to carry a handful of cards and some cash, at the most. There’s no room for coins or keys. In this age, where plastic money can be used everywhere, they are a sensible option.

Bi-folds and tri-folds

bifold and trifold wallet review

Bi-folds and tri-folds are your ordinary leather wallets (even though they are becoming more compact these days). Bi-fold designs are like a book – you can open it and get two compartments side-by-side and fold it in half when you keep it away. A tri-fold design is usually a bigger wallet that opens out three times. The Carhartt Men’s wallet is a great example of the type and is one of the best men wallet tri-fold designs.

Metal Wallets

Metal Wallet Review

Metal wallets, as you might have guessed, are much more durable than leather or canvas wallets. You don’t need to baby them and they will last a long time. The drawback of getting one is the lack of flexibility – you won’t be able to sit on one comfortably (which is why most metal wallets are front-pocket minimalist ones). Some common types of metals used in their construction include aluminum, steel and titanium.

Card Holders

Card Holder Wallet Review

Card holders, like the name suggests, are designed exclusively to hold cards. Many of them can hold as much as two dozen cards, or even more, and have mechanisms that get cards to cascade out. Some of them come with money clips, allowing you to carry a few bills. If you almost always use cards for payment and can’t remember the last time you used a coin or cash, a credit card holder might be a good choice for you.

Other wallet types include breast wallets, envelope wallets, travel wallets and zip wallets. Most of these types aren’t suited for daily use, though, so we won’t look at them in detail. The best wallet for men, we believe, is something that can be carried everywhere and for every occasion.

Best Wallet Brands

All wallet manufacturers claim their wallets are the best and the only ones you’ll ever need. Unfortunately, only some claims hold. A surefire way to find the best men’s wallet is to buy from a manufacturer that has been around for at least a few years. We’ve gathered a list of wallet brands that have great reputations, good customer service and solid products:

Big Skinny

Big Skinny Wallet Review

Big Skinny is a well-known brand that makes wallets for both men and women. They make bi-folds, tri-folds, credit card holders, travel wallets, purses and much more. What’s so special about Big Skinny wallets? Big Skinny wallets are made up of a special nylon micro-fiber that brings down the weight of the wallet by approximately 50%!

The nylon micro-fiber also happens to be water-proof and tear-resistant. It can take a beating and many people who are into extreme sports use Big Skinny wallets. If you’re tired of wallets that don’t last, get crimpled or worn out quickly, Big Skinny is for you. The Acrobat Money-Clip Bifold is perhaps the most durable wallet you will come across.

Keplero Luxury Wallet Review

Keplero is a brand that began with the help of backers on Kickstarter.com. The Keplero luxury wallet is one of the highest-grossing projects in the history of Kickstarter. Keplero only manufactures two products: a luxury wallet that’s made up of carbon fiber and a cheaper version that’s made up of Crystal ABS.

The Keplero luxury wallet is made up of very durable, high-quality carbon fiber that can withstand great pressure. In fact, in a product demonstration, they even run a steamroller over it – the wallet survives intact. If you’re in the market for the best, most durable wallet that money can buy, the Keplero luxury might be for you. It’s a minimalist wallet, though, and only holds 6 cards, sandwiched between magnetic layers.

Hugo Boss

Hugo Boss Wallet Review

You must have heard of Hugo, even if you’re not into fashion. Hugo is a luxury clothes and apparel maker that offers some outstanding leather wallets. The Hugo Boss Company was founded in Germany in 1924. Their products are highly sought after worldwide on account of their superior workmanship and clever designs.

The Hugo Brummi Bi-Fold Pocket Leather Wallet is one of the most popular products in their inventory. It’s made up of genuine leather and, unlike most of the products on our list, includes a coin pocket. There’s room in the wallet for 6 cards (more if you stuff them in), several bank notes and receipts. It’s a little on the expensive side, being Hugo, but it’s one of the best men’s wallets in leather and worth the investment.

Gucci Mens Wallet Review

Gucci is another luxury brand that offers premium wallets. If you’re in the mood to spend some extra cash, then Gucci makes some of the best men’s wallets you’ll ever find. The Gucci Company has been around since 1921 and their creations are getting better with time.

The Gucci Signature Web Wallet is a classic wallet made from genuine Italian leather. At 4.5W x 3.5H inches, the wallet is small and will fit a front pocket. It has bold green and red stripes at the front, which make it look unique and expensive. The Gucci Signature Wallet will fit 8 cards, receipts and bills.

Rag & Bone

Rag and Bone Wallet Review

Rag & Bone is an American company that makes luxury products for mostly women. It’s a comparatively new brand that was founded as recently as 2002. They make great clothes and accessories for men, too, though – like their Billfold Wallet.

The Rag & Bones Billfold Wallet is made up of genuine vegetable-tanned leather. It will hold about 6 cards and plenty of bills. The simple design and clean look of the wallet makes it one of the best men’s wallets we’ve encountered. If you’re looking for something refined and understated, this is what you’re after.

Buying guide: Filtering the good from the bad

It’s easy to get lost in the sea of wallets. To find the best wallet, you’ll have to go through a bunch of ordinary ones. It helps if you know what to look for. Here are some important considerations you need to make before settling on a purchase:

Is your idea of the best men wallet something large? Some people get very uncomfortable when asked to sit on a fat wallet all day. Depending on where and when you’re going to use it, you might be better off with a smaller wallet which you can slip into your front pocket (or even your bag/backpack). If you get a small wallet, though, you won’t be able to carry as much in it.

Can you do without some of your credit, library, ID and loyalty cards? Most wallets will hold 6-12 cards. If you’re a person that owns a couple of dozen cards – including business cards and passports – you might be better off getting a card holder instead of a wallet. Some wallets don’t have coin pouches while others are too short to hold all international currency types, so watch out for that.

The most durable wallet made of high-quality leather will last anywhere from 5 to 10 years. However, leather starts to crinkle and crease in about 6 months. It will go out of shape if you sit on it, so keep that in mind. A wallet made up of hybrid leather, nylon or polycarbonate mix should last longer. Look for tear-resistant material, as well as something water-resistant. Finally, metal wallets are sometimes a better option when you don’t have a lot of stuff to carry.

Bi-fold and tri-fold wallets will hold a lot of stuff, but how easy is it to retrieve your money when you’re in a hurry? Look for wallets that have quick-access pockets. You could also consider wallets that have a spring-lever that you can press to get cards to pop out (like the Secrid Range). Will you use the wallet daily, when you travel or while playing sports? Most leather wallets are pretty durable, but they need to be protected against stains, dampness and direct sunlight.

Looks are perhaps a secondary consideration, but an important one nonetheless. Wallets made from genuine Napa leather look subtly shiny and will age well. Some fine-grain wallets look better when they age, in fact. However, leather wallets will develop crimps and tears after heavy use. Metal wallets are usually shinier and flashier than regular leather wallets. Stainless steel won’t lose its shine even after you’ve had it for several years. If you’re looking for something subtle, get something that’s made up of black aluminum or titanium. Are you looking for something that makes a statement? Some manufacturers make wallets from materials like polished wood and crystal.

Does the brand/wallet manufacturer have a good reputation? How good is their customer service? If possible, stick to brands that have been around for a while. Some wallets will have manufacturing defects (it’s common enough) – check to see if the manufacturer offers a quick replacement. Many brands offer a touch of personalization like gift-box packaging and name embossing/engraving. To get the best bang for your buck, get a wallet that comes with a 5-year or a lifetime warranty.

There have been many discussions and rumors about RFID floating around on the internet and in news. Some experts are of the opinion, though, that RFID isn’t a real threat. Modern credit (and other) cards do have RFID chips, but they don’t carry important information like your ATM pin. Even if a thief manages to get his hand on your info, it’ll be useless to them. Some banks also issue non-RFID cards. Should you get a RFID-protected wallet? You could, just to be safe. You could also get a non-RFID wallet and buy RFID sleeves for cards.

To Finish Things

The best wallet for men will be easy to use, convenient to carry, attractive and durable. Leather wallets are classics and always a good choice. If you’re looking for something new, you could go for a wallet made up of metal, wood or crystal. Always read up on customer reviews and double-check the star rating before finalizing a purchase. That way, you’ll be able to find an excellent wallet that will stand the test of time.
